PARTICK forward Kallum Higginbotham is determined to put Thistle's latest collapse behind him to kick-start the Jags' bid for League Cup glory tonight.

Thistle threw away three points against Hamilton on Saturday as late goals from Tony Andreu and Jason Scotland earned Accies a dramatic win.

The unhappy ending was a sickener for Higgy, who thought he had put Alan Archibald's side on course for a second win of the Premiership campaign with a moment of magic five minutes from time.

His sublime strike was to prove in vain, though, as the problems from last season returned and Thistle failed to see out the game when on top.

The 25-year-old knows Thistle must learn their lesson quickly as they prepare for their Morton cup clash.

Higginbotham said: "I'm really disappointed because I thought we'd learned from similar things happening last season but that proves we haven't.

"We've got to work on the training ground and try to put it right because it killed us last season and came back to bite us again.

"It's good we've got this game so quickly although nothing could take away the feeling of devastation in the dressing room after the game. I didn't feel we deserved anything from the Hamilton game.

"We had a few chances in the first half, but didn't put them away and then you score with five minutes to go and think you've got out of jail.

"Hamilton deserved credit because they showed last season they never give up and they got the two goals.

"We're going to go into the Morton game and try and win it and hopefully we'll have a good following.

"The important thing is to get the Hamilton game out of our heads and be ready for Morton."

Having collected four points from their first three Premiership outings, Thistle will turn their attentions to cup action when they travel to Cappielow.

The Jags have struggled in Scotland's top knockout competitions in recent years.

And Higginbotham knows they will have to up their game to avoid a shock exit against Jim Duffy's League One side.

He said: "Everyone likes a cup run. It's great to get to the National Stadium and good for the fans.

"It would be good for the club and bring in a lot of revenue.

"I think we've got the quality in the squad, but we need to cut out the mistakes because it's fine margins and we were punished against Hamilton.

"The luck of the draw comes into it as well. You need help along the way, but I believe we have the quality to go far."

Boss Archibald has a fitness doubt over defender Daniel Seabourne after he picked up a hamstring injury

Seabourne missed the defeat to Accies at the weekend and while the injury is not thought to be too serious, he is unlikely to face the Ton tonight.
