THE Old Firm have met in many cup finals over the years, attracting massive attendances - with the 1962-63 Scottish Cup Final and replay pulling in unbelievable crowds...

K. DUNCAN (Glasgow) - Can you tell me when Rangers and Celtic first met in a Scottish Cup Final after 1946-47 when the cup competition returned after World War II.

They did not meet each other in the final until season 1962-63. They met on May 4, 1963, at Hampden and drew 1-1, watched by a crowd of 129,500.

The replay also at Hampden on May 15 saw Rangers win 3-0 in front of a 120,200 crowd with goals by Brand (2) and Wilson.

R. FORBES (Glasgow) - Could you tell me how many caps Bobby Evans of Celtic won throughout his career?

Evans won a total of 48 caps, just two short of being in the Scottish Football Association Roll of Honour.

He retired from football in 1967. He could play as a wing-half or centre-half and was Scotland's Player of the Year in 1953.

JIM (Newlands) - It is often the case that penalty-kicks, either missed or scored, change the outcome of a game. I am sure in Scotland games we missed penalties in crucial matches. Can you help me with some of the sad details?

At the 1978 World Cup Finals in Argentina we played a group match against Peru.

We went 1-0 up when Joe Jordan scored but the Peruvians equalised before half-time.

In the second half we were awarded a penalty-kick. Don Masson stepped up but the keeper saved easily. Peru went on to win the match 3-1.

At Euro 96 we played England at Wembley. Trailing 1-0 to an Alan Shearer strike we got a penalty. Up stepped Gary McAllister to shoot but David Seaman saved his effort. England went on to win 2-0 thanks to Paul Gascoigne.

In 1989 the Scotland Under-16 team reached the World Youth Cup Final at Hampden Park. Beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 and into the second half, Scotland were awarded a penalty.

Young Brian O'Neill, who had been an inspiration throughout the tournament, sadly missed. Saudi Arabia equalised and Scotland ended up losing 5-4 on penalties.

MARGARET HARKNESS (Dumbarton) - My eldest son is 40 soon. He was born on Saturday, September 7, 1974.Could you tell me the results of Rangers, Celtic and Dumbarton that day?

All these matches were in the old First Division.
