IAN CATHRO has been linked with a move to Newcastle United – just weeks after he missed out on becoming the new Rangers manager.
The 28-year-old held talks with the Light Blues board regarding the top Ibrox job, but it was Mark Warburton who won the race to become the Gers boss alongside David Weir.
Cathro was touted for the Rangers position for several weeks and speculation over a move peaked when he stepped down as assistant manager of Valencia earlier this month as he cited family reasons.
The Scot could now make the move to Tyneside and become part of Steve McClaren’s Toon backroom staff after he replaced John Carver in the dugout at the end of the Barclays Premier League campaign.
