OLD Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers have both made tentative enquiries to Hibs about Scott Allan - but neither club has tabled a concrete bid for the midfielder.

Allan impressed at Easter Road last season after joining them on a free transfer and was named in the SPFL Championship Team of the Year.

The former Dundee United and West Brom player, who is out of contract at the end of the 2015/16 campaign, has attracted the interest of Celtic and Rangers.

The 23-year-old would be available for a nominal fee given that he can leave the capital club for free during the January transfer window.

Ronny Deila, the Celtic manager, declined to talk about Allan or any players specifically when he chatted to the media today.

But he is believed to have been impressed by Allan - as his opposite number Mark Warburton has been at Rangers.

But HIbs head coach Alan Stubbs today revealed he is confident the player, voted the best performer in the second tier last season, will remain in Leith.

Stubbs believes his worth on the park is more important to the club than any potential transfer fee.

Stubbs said: "Scott Allan is a Hibs player and I don't see any reason why that should change. Scott has one year left on his contract and we as a club are comfortable with the situation.

"The one thing we are thinking about is the club itself and the most important thing is that we try and put a team together that's going to be fighting for promotion.

"When you do that you have to have your best players and Scott falls into that bracket.

"So the club's needs will always come first. We can't stop teams from putting bids in but we are not welcoming them at all because Scotty is an important member of the squad. There are no bids that I know of."

Meanwhile, defender Liam Fontaine has signed a new two year contract with Hibs.

Fontaine, 29, joined Hibs last summer after being released by Bristol City.

The Englishman was a regular starter last season as they finished runners-up in the Scottish Championship.

He told the official Hibs website: "I really enjoyed last season and now the aim is to add to the progress that we made and go one step further by getting up to the Premiership.

"The manager has made some good signings so far this summer and I can't wait for the new season to start.

"I enjoy playing for the club and working with the manager - this was an easy decision for me to make and I'm glad it's now all sorted out."

Elsewhere, striker Franck Dja Djedje and midfielder Scott Robertson have both left Easter Road.

Former Dinamo Minsk player Dja Djedje joined Hibs in January and scored three goals in 15 appearances.

But he has agreed to cut short his contract a year early and has signed for Al-Shahania, who play in the Qatar Stars League.

Robertson, who has won two caps for Scotland, joined Hibs in January 2013 after leaving Blackpool.

The 30-year-old played 41 times for Alan Stubbs' side last season.
