TOP para swimmer Scott Quin cannot wait for the IPC World Championships to get underway in Glasgow later this month.

The 25-year-old is one of this country’s best medal chances at the Championships, which will take place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow from July 13-19.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for the Worlds, I just can’t wait for it to start,” he says. “It’s been a tough season so it feels like it’s been a long wait for me to get here.”

Quin finished fifth at the last World Championships two years ago and his primary target is to better that position in Glasgow.

However, he slightly reluctantly admits to having aspirations of getting on to the podium.

Quin will use these World Championships as another stage in his journey towards the 2016 Paralympics, and it is the disappointment he experienced of missing out on selection for the London 2012 Paralympic Games that has driven him on for the last three years.

“I was devastated to miss out on London and my coaches really had to pick me back up,” he admits.

“I really wondered if there was any point in continuing after that. I seriously considered chucking it – I started to think, ‘maybe I’m not good enough’. But now, I understand why I didn’t make the team for London. It happened for a reason and you have to learn from it and move on.”

The Warrender swimmer won his first international medal last year when he took silver at the IPC European Championships, and it was a result that he says really improved his confidence.

Quin is now looking to add to his medal collection later this month.

“I’m so excited to be swimming at home – I really hope we get a good crowd in to watch us at Tollcross,” he says.

“I know I’ll be nervous because there will be a bit of expectation there, but I’m more excited than anything. It’s going to make me feel so proud to have that home support and it’s really going to push me on.”
