GLASGOW golf pro Graham Fox will put his day job on hold this week to rub shoulders with some of the world’s top stars at Gullane.

The former Scottish PGA champ grabbed one of five spots on offer for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in the 36-hole qualifier at North Berwick last night.

Fox closed with a six-under 65 for an 11-under 131 and progressed into the domestic showpiece along with Craig Sutherland, Gareth Wright, Greig Hutcheon and East Lothian amateur, Calum Hill.

Fox divides his time with competition on the Tartan Tour and teaching at the Clydeway facility on the outskirts of Glasgow.

And the former Scotland amateur cap is now having to re-jig his schedule to compete in an event worth a massive £3.25million.

“I think I’ll have to cancel a few lessons this week,” he said with a smile. “I played very well today and the fact that I’m much more relaxed about golf helped.

"I don’t get as uptight as I used to as that just leads to poor shots. I just stayed in the moment and tried not to think about the bigger picture and what was at stake.”

Paisley’s former European Tour champ Alastair Forsyth was one of a host of locals to miss out on a place despite a closing 65. He finished two shots shy of the mark on 134 along with Cathkin Braes pro Alan Welsh.
