Maria Sharapova will face American Coco Vandeweghe in the quarter-finals today after the Russian eased past Zarina Diyas in straight sets.

Kazakhstan's Diyas only managed to take two games off Sharapova at the Australian Open earlier this year and, while this was a tighter match on Court One, the No.4 seed sealed a convincing 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Sharapova is hoping to win a second Wimbledon title after being crowned champion in 2004, and she will now play 23-year-old Vandeweghe, who had never been past the third round of a grand slam before this tournament.

"I think it's been a tremendous effort for her to get to this stage of the tournament," Sharapova said of her next opponent.

"With the serve she has, her game really revolves around that serve, and she's been using it quite effectively in her previous four matches.

"The return will be extremely important today, especially taking care of my service games.

"It's always tricky playing against a really good server on grass because a few points here and there can ultimately tell the difference in the winner and the loser. I'm quite looking forward to that match-up."
