A RECORD 25.4million US viewers watched their country's women defeat Japan 5-2 in the World Cup final in Canada.
It was also revealed that Japanese viewing figures were higher than when they won the tournament in 2011.
The American audience was 39 per cent higher than the previous high set in 2014 when 18.2m tuned in for the group stage match between the US men's team and Portugal at the World Cup in Brazil.
