STEWART Dickson is predicting his Glasgow side will face some stormy Wethers this weekend – in the shape of an old on-track rival.

The Tigers team boss believes Workington reserve Matthew Wethers could be the key man when the Comets visit the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on league business on Sunday.

Wethers has been a regular thorn in the side of Glasgow since he came to the UK from Australia in 2003 – racing for northern clubs including Edinburgh and Berwick before joining the Comets this year.

He also had a spell with the Tigers back in 2005 and is something of an Ashfield expert.

Dickson said: “I think it’ll be tough on Sunday. They have Kyle Howarth, who was impressive in the Pairs at Somerset last Friday, Ricky Wells, Rusty Harrison, Kenneth Hansen; Matthew Wethers down at reserve to give them a bit of punch, Rene Bach.

“On pape,r Workington look a very strong team now. I think we’ve got to look to be hitting them in heats 13 and 15 because they don’t have the big-hitter at No.1, but the thing is that they’re all capable of winning races and Wethers could be the trump card at the bottom end – he’s quite a clever rider.

“We are going to be with six riders again. I know we get Richard Lawson and Aaron Summers a ride each for David Howe, but you’re always playing a cagey game with six riders, in case you get an injury or something. I think it’s a Workington team that’s stronger than what it was on its League Cup visit earlier in the season.”

Scunthorpe's Nike Lunna will guest in place of Victor Palovaara – who is racing in a World U-21 Championship round in Italy tomorrow night and is unable to make it back in time for Sunday's meeting.

The tapes go up at 3pm.

Meanwhile, it's anticipated that Howe – who aggravated a shoulder injury at Berwick last month – will be on the sidelines for at least another few weeks.

The Tigers were due to hear the results of the Englishman's visit to an expert earlier this week, but are not anticipating a speedy return for the former Scunthorpe man.
