STEWART DICKSON was full of praise for his patchwork Glasgow Tigers side as they beat Workington by 17 points at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Sunday.

Captain Aaron Summers topped the pile for the home side on 16 points, while Richard Lawson was beaten by an opponent just once in six rides.

James Sarjeant was the only other regular Tiger on show and he got five.

The three guests – Lasse Bjerre, Adam Roynon and Nike Lunna, replacing Nick Morris, Dimitri Berge and Victor Palovaara respectively – added 17 points to the cause for a 53-36 victory and three Premier League points.

Team boss Dickson said: "It was a good result. The second half of the meeting was fantastic – I'm very happy. Before the meeting I thought we would win, but I had it down for maybe a four or six-point win. But to win by 17 was fantastic and the team spirit was really good.

"The guests all did a terrific job. We got 17 from them – you can't ask for any more than that. The target was 35 between the three heat leaders and I got 38, so we're pleased.

"There was a fair amount of dirt on the track and there was some good passing and good racing. Kenneth Hansen for them was fantastic, but Summers and Lawson were outstanding."

It was the reserve pairing of Lunna and Roynon who made a vital contribution in heat two when they scored the home team's first 5-1.

The Comets pulled it back to within two points and it remained the same until heat nine, when Lawson stood in for the absent David Howe in his rider replacement and accompanied Summers to another 5-1.

Lawson and Bjerre then got a 5-1 of their own in heat 13 before the Englishman and Summers repeated the feat in the final race.

Surprisingly for the visitors, track specialist Matthew Wethers scored just one while top man Kyle Howarth fell and retired in his last two rides to post a score of four.

It sets the Tigers up well for four fixtures in four days next week, starting at Sheffield on Thursday.

The club await news on Morris's availability following his fall on Friday that saw him sidelined today, while they will also have to consider how they replace the now-departed Berge in the coming days.

Palovaara will return after he was unavailable today due to his participation last night in the World Under-21 Championship first round, when he scored eight – six behind the leaders.

Tigers scorers: Aaron Summers 16, Richard Lawson 15+2, Adam Roynon (guest) 7+2, Lasse Bjerre (guest) 7+1, James Sarjeant 5+1, Nike Lunna 3+1, David Howe R/R.
