BRAEHEAD CLAN fans could be seeing the return of Davide Nicoletti to Glasgow.

The defenceman first featured in purple back in the 2012-13 season where he racked up 24 appearances.

He moved on to Cincinnati Cyclones before making a switch to HC Bolzano of Austria where he won the EBEL Championship title two years ago.

Nicoletti then went on to pursue other interests away from ice hockey during last season but Clan bosses are hopeful they can coax him into returning to the Braehead Arena.

The Canadian could be coming in to fill the last EU sport as he holds an Italian passport.

Braehead Clan head coach Ryan FInnerty is looking to add some muscle and size to his blueline, and SportTimes understands 29-year-old Nicoletti could be the answer.

Meanwhile, Clan hockey operations director Gareth Chalmers has declared himself 'fairly satisfied' following the announcement of Braehead's fixtures for next season.

Finnerty's men will start their campaign with a trip to face Fife Flyers in the Challenge Cup, which is a later start than the rest of the league due to their involvement with the Champions Hockey League.

In a break away from the norm, only around half of the Glasgow side's home games will be played on a Saturday night, a time that has grown popular with the Purple Army over the last few seasons.

Instead, over a dozen matches will also be held on Sundays and throughout the week.

Despite some fans not being content with the change, Chalmers was keen to accentuate the positives.

He said: "Getting the fixtures the way you would like them is always an extremely difficult task, but I'm reasonably satisfied at how our schedule looks.

"Of course, the Champions Hockey League eats into the opening weekend, however it sets up what will be a great weekend where we'll renew old rivalries with Fife and Edinburgh.

"We welcome Manchester Storm into the league also and will provide a new, but stern opposition as they get into life in the EIHL.

"Now that the fixtures are released and the fans know how the season looks for them, all that remains is to get started and look ahead to another exciting campaign."
