PARTICK THISTLE new boy Gary Miller has set his sights on getting his name on the scoresheet after managing just one goal in the past three years.

The 28-year-old defender admits his main role in the team will be to create opportunities with his strong running from the right-back position, but he would like to enjoy a little more of the limelight himself.

Miller only hit the net once in three seasons at St Johnstone and clearly has his eye on rectifying that record.

"I hope I can create some goals and maybe score some too,” he said. “I like to work hard, get forward and help create goals as well as keep them out at the other end."

Miller spent the summer on trial with the club before penning a one-year deal earlier this week and made his first appearance at Firhill on Tuesday night in the 1-1 friendly draw with Wigan.

He faces competition for the right-back berth from Christie Elliott and started the game on the bench, replacing the Geordie with 26 minutes to play.

"It was good to make my debut at Firhill and get out there in front of the home fans,” he said.

"We are obviously still going through pre-season, but it was a good test and I thought we did really well.

"I've been with the club for all of pre-season, so it was strange to sign officially and already know everyone.

“It helps that I have spent pre-season with the team because that means I'm not catching up or anything so close to the season starting.”

Manager Alan Archibald is still searching for fresh blood ahead of the big kick-off with a new centre-forward the priority.

“We are still looking to add a striker and have a few irons in the fire, but there is nothing to speak of at the moment,” said Archibald.
