CALLUM BOOTH hopes Partick Thistle can end their pre-season campaign on a high note before the competitive action gets underway next weekend.

Alan Archibald’s side round off their summer schedule with a friendly at home to Championship outfit Rotherham this afternoon as preparations continue for the domestic opener at Hamilton a week today.

Thistle have played a number of behind-closed-door fixtures and faced Eastleigh and Wigan in recent weeks as they gear up for their third Premiership campaign.

And Booth can’t wait to get down to business as he prepares for his first full term at Firhill after making his loan switch from Hibs permanent this summer.

He said: “We have had a few friendly games now and this is the last one before the season starts, so all the boys are raring to go.

“Hopefully we can put on a good performance today and go into the season on a high.

“In pre-season games, you are trying to get as many minutes under your belt as you can, but you don’t want to get injured before that first game.

“This is the one we have all been aiming for over the last month or so. It is a tricky balance, but our games have been competitive and I am sure this one will be the same.

“Having a full pre-season at one club is good because I am settled and I have managed to get plenty of work done.

“I know the boys and how the manager works and I can’t wait to get started now.”

Thistle head into the new season with their sights set on a lofty top-flight finish as they look to continue their progression under boss Archibald.

Keeper Tomas Cerny, right-back Gary Miller and forward David Amoo have made the move to Firhill so far this summer as the Jags’ first-team pool has been strengthened.

And Booth is confident Thistle are on the right track as they mix experience and youth and bid for further improvement.

He said: “We finished eighth last season, which was good, but this year we want to do even better.

“We have got a good squad and a good team and I think we are in a good position. Hopefully we can get a cup run as well. It would be good if we can keep everyone fit and have a really good season.

“It is hard to compare to last time because we haven’t played a competitive game yet, but we are shaping up well and the manager has brought in some quality players.

“There are a lot of young boys coming through as well and they are chapping on the door and looking for their chance.

“I am sure they will get a shot this season and it is encouraging to see five or six of them coming through and adding to the squad.”
