MARK WARBURTON is pleased to see Barrie McKay making the most of his chance to impress for Rangers this season.

The winger spent time on loan at Morton and Raith Rovers in the last two campaigns as he fell out of the picture at Ibrox.

McKay started the friendly fixture with Burnley last Tuesday night and Saturday’s 6-2 win over Hibernian as he set up Kenny Miller for the final goal of the afternoon.

And Warburton is keen to see his young players push for a prominent places in his plans in the coming months.

He said: “He can be a success, absolutely. He’s a really young player, an academy graduate and he needs to be challenged.

“He also needs time and we need to show patience with young players because you can throw them in too early.

“Barrie’s done really well in training and anyone who does that and applies themselves will have a chance of making the first team. If they don’t then there’s no point in them being in the job.

“The likes of Tom Walsh, Fraser Aird and Jordan Thomson have also done well and, if that continues, we’ll pick them.”
