Seven Scots have been named alongside the returning Jessica Ennis-Hill in Great Britain's team for next month's IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

Eilidh Child (400m hurdles and 4x400m relay), Lynsey Sharp (800m), Laura Muir (1500m), Steph Twell (5000m) and Mark Dry (hammer) all qualified for the team after meeting the required standard in their respective events, whilst Kirsten McAslan (4x400m relay) and Chris O'Hare (1500m) were given selectors picks.

O'Hare took the bronze medal at last year's European Championships, while McAslan caught the eye of selectors when she won gold at the European Under-23 Championships.

The Scots are amongst a total of 62 athletes who will compete for Britain at the championships, which take place at the iconic Bird’s Nest stadium between 22nd and 30th August.

British Athletics Performance Director Neil Black said:

“Beijing is a hugely important event to us, yet this is the first of three huge global competitions for us, with the Olympics in Rio next year and the home World championships in 2017.

“In selecting athletes we were looking at either a potential to finish top eight in this year’s Worlds or to give opportunities to athletes developing towards medal success in 2016 and beyond.

“I’m very confident we have selected a team who can be successful in Beijing, as well as use it as a platform onto further Olympic and World successes.”
