THERE has not been a stone left unturned, a scenario not discussed or any potential outcome ignored.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila knows what his team will be tonight against Qarabag FK, their formation, what changes he might make during the 90 minutes, and how good the opposition are.

He and his backroom staff have built, planned and focused the entire pre-season up to this point, the beginning of the third round of qualifiers for the Champions League.

It was always going to be when things started for real.

Deila knows what he wants from his players and even the crowd. He has planned everything to the finest detail. Now all his team have to do is win. Simple, really.

The Celtic boss said: “You feel like you’re putting all your energy into the games. We’re starting to get some experience of this, switching on to the right things.

“It’s about enjoying the game, looking forward to it and believing what you have done for a long time. That’s important.

“If you start now to think what you’re doing is not right or you have to change, then you’re not a good coach. You have to believe in what you’re doing.

“If I have done the work I should have then I sleep well. If I feel I am not prepared then I don’t sleep. I just think of the choices I have to make.

“That’s why after games I don’t sleep very well. You reflect, you go through the game and you look for answers.

“Am I sleeping better now than 12 months ago? Yes! Definitely. I’m more in control of the situation now, but then again it’s a football match. We have to go out, believe in ourselves.

“They have a lot of quality and they have got a lot of good results the last half a year. But if we are at our best, we can cause Inter Milan problems so we can cause Qarabag problems as well.”

Deila will make sure his players are as calm as humanly possible before and during the game.

A bit of nerves is okay, but too much can affect the brain.

He said: “The biggest challenge is you always want to do too much Then it’s going to be over-stressed.

“If you are stressed you do stupid things. It’s the same with the players – if they’re stressed they make silly mistakes. You have to be confident. We know what we’re going to meet, we know we are facing a good team.

“But in the end it’s about what we are doing. It’s about how we cope with their strength. Most of all how we get our strengths into the game.

“You have to do what you do all the time, but you also have to be cautious in small things, too.”

And Deila wants the crowd, which should be around 45,000, to play their part.

Celtic Park did not rock as much as it has done last season, even in the Europa League. This is a chance to remind every- one what a special evening the European games can be.

Deila said: “The game is at Celtic Park, our castle. We need to be kings of that castle.

“That is what we are aiming for, to get Celtic Park to be the hardest place to come. This game is important in terms of what we can show as a team and to make the atmosphere better.

“It’s about quality, about when we get good enough. I remember at the start of last season when the teams don’t fear to come to Celtic Park, that it is nothing. We changed that last season and now we have to bring that out in Europe.”

As expected, Charlie Mulgrew is out of this match with a ligament problem to a knee which is not thought to be serious. There is some good news, however, with the return of Kris Commons.

Emilio Izaguirre will come back into the team and the Honduran, who has looked off the pace in the games so far, and is set for a major test against Qarabag, who pride themselves on being strong on their wings.

“Charlie is struggling,” Deila confirmed. “This thing he got on Saturday is not big, so he will be available for next Wednesday. But this game will be too early. It was a late tackle on him, but I don’t think that’s what caused the pain.

“I have spoken several times with Emilio over the last few months. It is, again, competition. It’s about development and using the right players at the right moments. Emilio is a very good player and has no problem about playing in this game.

“Kris is in the squad. That is important for is. He is a quality player with a lot of experience. It’s good to have him back.”

Deila revealed he was “70 or 80 per cent” sure of what the starting eleven will be with his biggest decision surrounding whether to play Leigh Griffiths, Nadir Ciftci – or both.

He said: “We will see what happens. It’s a tough choice, but it’s a sporting problem. They are two good players and both of them can be important in the game.

“Whether I play them both up front or one comes on for other or one comes on to play with the other, we’ll see during the game.

“I think Ciftci has qualities to drop more into the spaces and be a link player and Leigh can be the threat. We’ll see tomorrow night if that is a way we go.”
