Leigh Griffiths is convinced that he and Nadir Ciftci can enjoy a fruitful partnership – if Ronny Deila pairs the two of them together.

Griffiths has been overlooked for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers in favour of the new signing from Dundee United.

And while he may privately feel irked that his form coming off the bench has not earned him a start, he was keen to ponder the question of what both players together could mean for the club.

They have not started games together but have played the latter stages out on the park after Griffiths has come off the bench.

He told the Celtic View: “I am used to playing with someone in the No.10 role behind me but Nadir is a good player,” he said.

“He is strong, he has a lot of attributes that allows us to link off each other and if we play well and strike up a partnership, I am sure we would score goals.

“It depends who you are playing against. If you’re up against a side you can exploit by getting in behind them, my pace gets me in behind teams a lot and opens up space for the No.10, whether that be Ciftci, Stefan Johansen or Stuart Armstrong.

“It gives them space to come in and play so it gives us something different going forward.”

Griffiths has taken the No.9 jersey at the club this season, an accolade he was delighted with.

“As a striker you want to be the No.9 as it means you’re the main man and hopefully I can show that all season. I got a bit of stick from Virgil van Dijk for using the hashtag ‘#LG9’ on Twitter last week after I scored but it is all in good jest and I’ll not be using it unless I score goals.”
