MARK WARBURTON is confident Rangers are ready and raring to go ahead of their bid for the Championship title this term.

The Light Blues continued their preparations for the new league campaign with a 3-0 win over Peterhead yesterday as they booked their place in the League Cup second round.

The Ibrox triumph came a week after they saw off Hibernian 6-2 in the Petrofac Training Cup and Rangers now head into the Championship opener against St Mirren on Friday night in fine form and high spirits.

And Warburton is confident there is even more to come from his side if they can sharpen up their finishing and be more clinical in the final third.

He said: “I very much enjoyed the fans and the tremendous stadium.

“It was important we put on a good display and it was a good result at the end of the day against a tough team in what was a tough challenge.

“But we have to learn to be more clinical in front of goal to get our just rewards.

“That’s important to us. It’s important to have players who are flexible. We say about playing 7, 8, 10, 11. You have to play anywhere across that front line.

“You saw Kenny turn up left and right, Barrie McKay left and right, Waghorn came out to the right in the second half.

“It’s important to us to keep working on that, on breaking teams down and keeping moving the ball. I was delighted with it, but I just want the players to get their rewards.

“They worked really hard today, created a lot of chances and could have been very respectfully a lot more ahead.

“It was game five of five and we have always said that’s the way we were going to plan it. It was a good result last week and again today so we’re ready for Friday night.

“I’ve had a good look at the squad and we’re in good shape, touch wood.”

After Templeton broke the deadlock late in the first half, Rangers secured the win as Miller and Tavernier netted after the break.

And Warburton is delighted to see Miller continuing to play his part after following up his Easter Road brace with another well-taken strike at Ibrox.

He said: “I have never forgotten what he can do.

“Remember, he was two weeks behind with pre-season. He had a calf injury, came back with an injury and fell behind in training. He made that up.

“But, again, you think of Burnley. He made an impression. Against Hibs last week he scored two goals and again today he was absolutely outstanding.

“So it’s important for us to utilise Kenny’s quality and make sure we maximise it throughout the course of a long season.”

RANGERS legend Sammy Cox has died at the age of 91 after a short illness.

Cox played 370 games for the Light Blues and won three league titles, three Scottish Cups and one League Cup during a glittering Ibrox career.

He was part of the famous Gers side that became the first to win a Treble in season 1948/49 and also won 24 caps for Scotland.

Rangers Director John Gilligan said: “I would like to send our sincere condolences to Sammy’s family at this very sad time.”
