New Ricoh Women’s British Open champ Inbee Park admitted how last year’s championship nightmare helped her claim a dream victory at Turnberry.

The South Korean star landed the seventh Major title of a shimmering career with sizzling seven-under 65 for a 12-under 276 and a three stroke victory over her young compatriot, Jin-Young Ko.

Park, who has now won six of the last 14 Majors up for grabs on the women’s scene, was leading coming on to the back-nine of last year’s championship at Birkdale but fluffed her lines on the run in.

But after finding redemption in Ayrshire last night, the 27-year-old said: “Last year was the most disappointing tournament I’ve had. I really felt I had that one. After the front nine of the final day I was leading by two and I only needed to shoot two or three-over on the back-nine to win but I couldn’t even do that. That experience really helped me this week."

Park has now won all the Major championships on the women’s scene although the Evian Championship that she won in 2012 was only elevated to Major status the following year.

Park remains adamant that she is has completed the career Grand Slam, though.

She added: “I’ve put my name on every single major championship. I feel like I’ve won all the majors in women’s golf.”

Elsewhere, Clydebank’s Scott Henry finished runner-up in the Madeira Islands Open for the second year running.

Henry, who lost in a play-off last season, hit a 66 for a 21-under 267 but that’s wasn’t good enough to catch Finland’s Roope Kakko who blasted a 63 for 264.

Glasgow’s Andrew McArthur also fired a 63 and took third place with an 18-under 270 in the dual-ranking European Tour and Challenge Tour event.
