PETERHEAD defender Scott Ross has been banned for two matches by the Scottish Football Association for spitting at Nicky Law of Rangers.

Ross was issued with a Notice of Complaint by the game's governing body and accepted the offer of the suspension after the incident in their 3-0 League Cup loss at Ibrox on Sunday.

Ross will now miss the club's League One fixtures against Stenhousemuir and Stranraer with his club claiming that he did not deliberately aim at Law.

"The PFC board have reviewed the video evidence and spoken with the player," said a Peterhead statement. "It is clear that Scott did spit in the general direction of Rangers player Nicky Law and Scott admits that he did spit, but it in no way was it intentionally directed towards Nicky Law and is making every effort to speak with Nicky to apologise for the misunderstanding.

"Peterhead FC, regardless of the circumstances, cannot condone spitting in any way. Although we accept Scott's explanation, he has fallen below the level of behaviour we expect, and has been fined under the clubs disciplinary code of conduct."
