UEFA are finally in Legia Warsaw’s good books again after they were awarded a 3-0 win in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier against FK Kukesi, just a year after being dumped out of the Champions League qualifiers by the governing body for fielding an ineligible player in their thumping win over Celtic.

The match in Albania last Thursday was abandoned after 51 minutes when Legia's Ondrej Duda was hit by a stone thrown from the crowd as his team celebrated taking a 2-1 lead.

Both teams were charged over the behaviour of supporters, but as Legia predicted on Twitter immediately after the abandonment, the match has been forfeited by Kukesi.

The second leg of the third qualifying round tie will go ahead as scheduled in Warsaw this Thursday.

The verdict from UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body also sees Kukesi fined 70,000 euros (£49,000) and ordered to play their next home game in UEFA competition behind closed doors.

A sanction of a second behind-closed-doors match was suspended for two years.

A statement on uefa.org read: "The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to declare the match FK Kukesi against Legia Warszawa as forfeited. As a consequence, FK Kukesi is deemed to have lost the first leg 3-0.

"In addition, the Albanian club has been ordered to play their next two UEFA competition home matches behind closed doors. The second match behind closed doors is deferred for a probationary period of two years.

"FK Kukesi have also been fined 70,000 euros.

"The return leg will take place on 6 August in Warsaw."

Legia complained bitterly last summer after UEFA ruled that Celtic should progress from their Champions League qualifier due to the Polish side introducing Bartosz Bereszynski in the 88th minute of the second leg, with the aggregate score already 6-1 in their favour.
