MARK WARBURTON has revealed 95 per cent of his preparation work is focused solely on Rangers as he strives for success at Ibrox this season.

The Englishman has made an impressive impact since being named as Light Blues boss earlier this summer and his side have started the campaign with eye-catching wins over Hibernian and Peterhead on cup duty.

Rangers will kick-off their bid for the Championship title at home to St Mirren tomorrow night as they look to make it three wins from three games this term.

And Warburton insists he isn’t fazed by his lack of local knowledge as he streamlines his attentions on his Ibrox squad.

He said: “I don’t know a great deal about them. I’ve watched games and had feedback from scouting reports, but I wouldn’t know as much about the individual players as I would have done at Brentford.

“That’s natural, because I have come from a different league where I knew all about my opposition.

“But 95 per cent of my focus is on what my team does, if I’m being honest. It’s about Rangers. It’s about us in the league, it’s about us preparing well.

“If teams play 4-5-1, 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 against us, that’s fine. It’s about us trying to do what we do well and dominate the football.

“If we can dominate the football, then we will be okay. You saw against Peterhead, we kept the ball really well and worked the opposition.

“We created chances late in the game, which we did against Hibs as well.”

Warburton has had to quickly learn on the go in a frantic spell as he has got up to speed with Scottish football and put his plans in place at Murray Park.

It has been a hectic but productive start to life in Light Blue for the former Brentford boss.

And Warburton will continue to use his time wisely as he learns the landscape and looks to revolutionise Rangers.

He said: “I went to Morton on Saturday and Dumbarton [on Monday] night. Davie (Weir) and I have talked a lot about this - a lot of times people go places for the sake of being seen.

“There is no value in them going to a game. There has to be value every single time you go, otherwise stay in and watch a game on your PC or do something in here.

“I always refer to the Japanese banking mentality, where they are there from 6am until 10pm because they want to be seen by the boss. But they are doing nothing.

“As long as we are adding value, then go to the game. But it has to be worthwhile.”

It has been a productive few weeks for Warburton and assistant Weir since they were handed the Ibrox reins and charged with returning the club to the top of Scottish football.

With seven new players and a fresh approach and style of play being implemented, there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful for the Light Blue legions.

Warburton used the Hibs and Peterhead games to fine tune his side ahead of the league kick-off and is pleased at the progress that has been made.

He said: “Yes, it’s been about getting our fitness levels right and hopefully coming through unscathed in terms of injuries.

“It’s been about finding a pattern of play, how we want to play the game. Touch wood, it’s gone well. I’ve been pleased with it.

“From the first training session, the players have been outstanding. I’m not saying that lightly.

“They have applied themselves on and off the pitch - with the gym work, all the additional work we do every day with them. They have been first class and hopefully that will show on the pitch.

“Our job here is to create the best environment, one which is conducive to them carrying on learning. A lot of them are young players and they need to keep on being challenged.

“They get the best medical care, sports science and nutrition. It’s the best care we can possibly give them.”
