LEE WALLACE was frustrated Rangers’ superiority on the park didn’t show on the scoreboard as they started their Ladbrokes Championship campaign with victory over St Mirren.

The left-back bagged a first-half double before Dean Shiels eased the Gers’ nerves late on and completed a 3-1 win in front of a packed Ibrox.

Mark Warburton’s side have hit the net 12 times in their opening three competitive fixtures this term, but again passed up a host of scoring chances against the Buddies.

It has been an impressive start to the campaign from the Gers and Wallace is confident there will be further improvement in the weeks ahead.

He said: “I don’t think the scoreline quite reflected how we played and I thought we should have scored more goals.

“That is probably one of the only criticisms, as well obviously as the couple of lapses of concentration near the back and we got off lightly with the penalty miss.

“Overall, we are delighted to get off and running and there is certainly more to come from us.

“It is really pleasing[to score two goals], I am just regretting the fact that I didn’t push on to get a hat-trick, which would have been unique.

“But I am really happy, more so for the team. We are off to a flyer and there is more to come from us.”

A bumper crowd of almost 50,000 saw Warburton’s side get their title bid off and running with a deserved victory against the Saints.

The Gers fans have been revitalised with the arrival of Warburton and a host of new players, and Wallace is delighted to see supporters back playing their part from the stands.

He said: “It is an outstanding feeling out on the pitch. The fans have been tremendous, from the moment we went out for our warm-up to the last seconds coming in.

“I feel that is the knock-on effect and we are giving them something in return. We are going to give them a massive thing in return this year. We are all in it together, which is a great feeling.”
