MOTHERWELL fans will get the chance to pay tribute to club captain Keith Lasley next month after details of his testimonial were announced.

The man who has played over 400 games in claret and amber will be honoured on Saturday, September 5, when the Steelmen take on Bolton Wanderers at Fir Park.

The match is the culmination of a special year for the 35-year-old following a gala dinner, race night and golf day.

Attempts have been ongoing for several months to find the right opposition for the special event that will be held during the upcoming international break.

And it’s an occasion that will see former Celtic manager Neil Lennon bring his Wanderers north to help bring in a big crowd.

Testimonial spokesman Graham Barnstaple told SportTimes: “We are delighted to finally get details of the match announced as we know a lot of Well fans are keen to honour Keith.

“There are not many men in the modern era that can justifiably be classed as a club legend, but at Motherwell Keith is certainly that.

“Over two spells he has been a leader both on and off the pitch and has made the natural progression to captain in recent years and flourished doing so.

“Keith’s influence goes way beyond the football pitch and he takes an active role in all aspects within the club. The relationship he has with the supporters is second to none and that was evident after the play-off win over Rangers when he was over singing with the fans.

“I’m sure many of them will be there on September 5 to celebrate with him again.”

Lasley first signed for Motherwell back in 2000 from Gleniffer Thistle, making his debut in December 2000 against Rangers. His consistent run of form saw him attract interest from England and, in the summer of 2004, he moved to Plymouth Argyle, only to return two years later.

In his two spells at Fir Park, he has made over 400 appearances, scoring 22 goals and has progressed to skippering the side in the last three seasons.

The Bolton squad which travels north will include former England international Emile Heskey and Scottish interest in Stephen Dobbie and former Celtic youngster Filip Twardzik, brother of Motherwell’s Dan.

Tickets for the game are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, and will be on sale at Fir Park from tomorrow.

There will also be other ways to get involved with packages for match sponsorship, player escorts and assistant manager to be announced.
