NATHAN ODUWA was at the centre of a show-boating row at Alloa yesterday as Rangers cruised back to the top of the Championship table.

The Alloa part-timers were raging when the Tottenham loan star tried some outrageous flicks in the dying moments of the 5-1 victory and reckon he was disrespectful.

Full-back Colin Hamilton said: “He’s come up here and he’s trying to show off, trying to make a name for himself. What can you do?

“I didn’t even get the chance to speak to him after the game as he just walked off but I’m sure there are other centre backs and left backs in the league that if he does try that against them, they maybe won’t let him away with it the same way.

“I felt as if he was trying to take the mickey. What was there, a minute to go? Was there really any need for it?

“I can’t tell any player how to play or not play, it’s his decision. There were so many Rangers fans were behind that goal and he was trying to make a name with them by trying a wee trick when his side were 5-1 up.”

Ibrox boss Mark Warburton tried to play down the incident, but admitted that he will have a word with the England under-21 attacker after being very satisfied with a comfortable victory.

He said: “There’s no lack of respect intended by any of the players, absolutely not. He’s just enjoying his football.

“We’ll have a quiet word about that. He’s a very respectful young guy. And I’ve no doubt he’ll make a right impression this season – for all the right reasons.

“He’s a very talented player. We’ve been chasing him for a long while. He’s come from a terrific academy and did a good pre-season with the Spurs first team.

“So I’m delighted with how he played, delighted we’ve got him. But he has to realise that he’s up here to learn.

“There will be some difficult challenges ahead for every player. It’s how we deal with them.”

Rangers won the game comfortably with Kenny Miller grabbing a double on his first start. James Tavernier set the ball rolling with a great strike while Martyn Waghorn netted a penalty and Jason Holt also scored.

Warburton, who confirmed that Lee Wallace is now officially captain, said: ‘The goal scorers all did well but we can look at the work going on behind them, too.

“Andy Halliday’s positioning is superb, Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson were excellent in coping with the physical presence today, the full-backs both got forward, and Wes Foderingham in goal was great.

‘Nicky Law, Jason Holt - I was delighted with all of them today. Our subs all made an impact. And we had some good guys who didn’t get on today.”

Alloa boss Danny Lennon said: “I thought you could definitely see the quality in a much improved Rangers side.

“What we have to do is be better at stopping the ball coming in.”
