DARREN MCGREGOR has set his sights on promotion bid with Hibernian after clinching a move to Easter Road.

The defender left Rangers by mutual consent on Monday and has now put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal in Leith.

McGregor won the Light Blues’ Player of the Year prize last season but fell down the Ibrox pecking order and wasn’t guaranteed first team football under boss Mark Warburton.

He has now agreed a switch to his boyhood club and can’t wait to get down to business in the Championship this term.

McGregor said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign for Hibs – it’s a dream come true for me to play for the club.

“I’ve supported Hibs my whole life, so to now get the opportunity to sign for the club is brilliant.

“I enjoyed my time with Rangers and now that has ended I’m really excited about starting the next chapter of my career at my club and helping Hibs to challenge for promotion.”

Leith boss Stubbs saw his side fall six points behind Rangers in the Championship title race on Sunday as they went down 1-0 at Ibrox.

And he is confident the arrival of McGregor will benefit his Capital squad in the coming months as they set their sights on a Premiership return at the second attempt.

Stubbs said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome Darren into the group – his arrival provides real competition for places.

“He has always played well against us and he is strong, experienced player and a good professional.

"We're always looking to strengthen the squad and the arrival of Darren will do exactly that.

“The fact that he is also a lifelong Hibs supporter is great and this move provides him with the opportunity to fulfil the dream of playing for his team.”
