VICTOR WANYAMA was conspicuous in his absence from Southampton's travelling party for their Europa League clash in Denmark.

The 24-year-old former Celtic midfielder has been heavily linked with a late move to Tottenham to link up again with ex-Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Current manager Ronald Koeman again reiterated neither Wanyama nor reported Manchester United target Sadio Mane will be sold before the transfer window closes on Tuesday – with the Senegalese also a doubt for Thursday night's play-off tie against FC Midtjylland.

But Koeman insisted Wanyama was left behind on doctors advice and it is understood he also visited a local hospital for a second opinion – although he could well be back in the team for Sunday's Premier League fixture against Norwich.

"Victor Wanyama wasn't travelling with the team because from yesterday on he was ill," Koeman said. "The latest update of the doctor this afternoon is that he had a stomach infection. I hope he will be available for the weekend but we have to wait."

Mane became a target for Manchester United after they claimed to have ended their interest in Pedro, who instead left Barcelona for Chelsea, but Saints have said he will remain at the club and he could play some part against Midtjylland despite being forced off in Sunday's goalless draw at Watford with a hip injury.

'We have to wait, yesterday he didn't train," Koeman replied when asked if Mane would be fit.

"The first part of the session on Wednesday he will be separated from the group. Then we will see if he is available for tomorrow. We have a good hope, but we have to wait."

West Brom striker Saido Berahino, another linked with a move to Tottenham, will get his wish according to Harry Redknapp, the former Spurs manager.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has maintained his club are not looking to sell the 22-year-old, and his resolve has not been broken by Tottenham's opening offers – thought to be £18m and £22m respectively, including a number of add ons.

There needs to be a huge change from Spurs for the deal to happen, but former Redknapp expects Berahino to eventually move to White Hart Lane.

"It's only a game of poker at the moment between (Tottenham chairman) Daniel Levy and Jeremy Peace," Redknapp said.

"Jeremy Peace holds all the aces in that situation because Tottenham are desperate for a striker - he's the one they've identified, so I think the deal will happen before the deadline.

"Everything's probably all done with the player behind the scenes. He probably has a good idea about where he's going to live, even.

"All it is now is a game of bluff between the two chairmen, who are trying to get the best deal for their clubs."

One player who does appear to be on the brink of a move to White Hart Lane is Son Heung-min. Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller says his club are trying to reach an agreement with Tottenham over the sale of the South Korean striker.

Son was left out of his side's Champions League qualifier with Lazio on Wednesday due to illness, but Voller says a move could be in the offing.

"There is a request and there are talks. But nothing is done. Son would not have played today anyway, he was sick at the weekend already. At this moment he is our player," he is quoted as telling Germany TV channel Sky. "I saw many medicals in this business where there was no deal afterwards. We will try to reach an agreement, but only under our conditions."
