STEVEN LAWLESS hopes Partick Thistle can give boss Alan Archibald something to shout about as they bid to end their rotten run this season.

The Jags crashed out of the League Cup to Championship side Falkirk on Tuesday night and have now gone six games without a win this term.

Archibald’s side have drawn with Hamilton Accies, Inverness and Kilmarnock in the Premiership so far and host in-form Aberdeen at Firhill this weekend.

It has been far from an ideal start to the campaign but Lawless is confident the performances and the results will come for the Jags.

He said: “It is only the very best, like Barcelona, who can go into every game and play their best.

“You are going to have bad runs but the boys are determined to fix it and get some confidence.

“As soon as we do, I am sure it will click in one game and we will give someone a doing.

“He (Archibald) is not really a shouting and bawling type of person. He is not quiet, but you can tell by his tone that he is not happy.

“It is new to a few of the boys but I am sure they will get used to it. For me personally, I like that.

“You don’t need to shout at people, his tone tells you to get the finger out. I know what we need to do in the next game and I am sure everyone else does.

“If we don’t put in performances then the gaffer will take you out the team. It is up to the boys that get the starting place to keep that place.”

Archibald lamented a flat showing from his side as Peter Grant netted the only goal of the game on 32 minutes to send the Bairns into the third round.

There was a lack of quality on the ball from Thistle as their sluggish build-up play left them with few chances to get back into the game.

And forward Lawless was disappointed with another below par performance in the final third as the Jags fired a blank for the fifth time this term.

He said: “I don’t really know why that was. We were trying to get the ball down and play but there was maybe a lack of movement.

“When I was trying to get on the ball, there were a lot of bodies. But that is up to myself and other people to make runs and make space.

“We will work on everything. We will get back to the drawing board and fix it for the weekend

“We are not taking our chances when we could. When we could have a pop at goal or put in a cross, we are coming back out or not getting the final ball in.

“I am sure that will come with the hours we put in on the training ground.”

One of the few chances Thistle did carve out fell to substitute Mathias Pogba in the second half.

But the striker couldn’t convert as he waited too long before pulling the trigger and saw his shot blocked.

Pogba has yet to score since making the move to Firhill but Lawless is confident the goals will come from the Frenchman.

He said: “I don’t think he is rusty, he has been good in training.

“He says that the keeper came out and he has just went for the wrong option at the wrong time and he knows that himself.

“He could have just put it past him. It will come.

“He got himself in great positions when he came on so I am sure he will do really well for us.”
