New Hamilton signing Alex D’Acol says that he has come to Scotland to help the Accies make history.

The 29-year-old from Sao Paolo in Brazil turned down several other offers to try his luck in Lanarkshire.

From watching the league from afar, he knows that leading the line for Accies will be tough, but is hopeful that he’ll soon be on the goal-trail.

“I hope to help the team first of all with goals and assists,” he said.

“I know I’ve come to a strong league, it’s a good league with high quality and I will give my best.

“I know Celtic and Rangers and all the other teams, but I have seen Celtic and Rangers on the TV a lot.

“I can see it’s a high level, and to compete with Celtic and Rangers then the other teams must be of a high level too.

“I’m really excited to get started.

“I haven’t played with anyone who has played in Scotland, but the advice that I got from everyone here like the manager and Lucas and even the guy who made contact to bring me here was very good, so I used that.

“I’ll get used to the weather I’m sure! As they say, Brazilians fit everywhere.”

The striker, who also has an Italian passport, comes to Hamilton with a decent pedigree having left Brazil over a decade ago.

He has spent the majority of his career in Greece, signing for Olympiacos as a teenager before scoring consistently for clubs around the country.

Most recently he was with AEK Athens in the lower leagues following the Greek giant’s financial collapse, where he netted 21 goals in 37 appearances.

“I was there for 11 years, but it was time for a change,” he said.

“I’m having a kid now so it’s a new phase in life for me and my wife. It’s a strong league and I hope I do well here.

“I had some other options, but one was too hot, one has a harsh life and the other one I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go.

“The Emirates was too hot, Saudi Arabia was a tough life, and Romania was the country I didn’t know.

“Here I’m sure that the country is good, and the league is very strong.”

Having only been here a matter of days, D’Acol has been impressed by his new surroundings, and is already planning for a long-term stay.

“That’s definitely an option and I hope I stay here for a long time,” he added.

“I just want to find my feet here and then make history.”

Hamilton manager Martin Canning revealed that he is also hopeful of adding a defender to his squad imminently, in what would be his fifth and final signing of the transfer window.
