BRAEHEAD CLAN star Lee Esders has called on the Purple Army to help their side cause a European upset tomorrow night.

The Glasgow club welcome Swedish champions and European top seeds Vaxjo Lakers to the Braehead Arena on Champions Hockey League duty, just over a week after the Scots were beaten 10-2 in the first leg.

Tomorrow night’s blockbuster has already sold out, meaning there will be over 3,500 screaming Clan fans willing their team on.

And while he admits it would be a mammoth task to record a result against Vaxjo, Esders believes anything is possible in front of a Braehead home crowd.

He said: “Coming back to Glasgow, it’s my third year at the club and in that time, the crowd have got louder and louder and be an intimidating atmosphere.

“Having been an opposition player here too, I know that for a fact so the Swedish team can expect a loud reception.

“We need those crowds to get right behind us, which I’m sure they will and hopefully can lift us in trying to get the result we want.

“Can we cause an upset? Who knows what can happen in sport? Växjö are the top seeds for a reason and I think we’ve got a good team and so we’ll give it our best shot.”
