Morton defender Luca Gasparotto admits he is desperate to mark his call-up to the Canada national team by helping Ton collect their first win of the season over Alloa today.

The on-loan Rangers centre half is thrilled to have been included in his country's squad for a World Cup qualifying double-header against Belize next month.

The 20-year-old will jet out on Sunday after Jim Duffy's side lock horn with the Wasps this afternoon, and will miss next weekend's trip to Livingston.

And Gasparotto is determined to join up with Canada on a high.

He said: "I'm delighted to have been called up by my national team, it's a huge honour and I'm looking forward to it.

"I've been involved in past camps and for friendlies before but this is the first time for a competitive game.

"It's two big games coming up against Belize.

"I keep in touch with the Canada assistant manager so I had an idea that I was going to be in this squad.

"I'm delighted but the most important thing for me now is the Alloa game and after Tuesday's win over Queen of the South in the League Cup, we're looking to get three points from this game.

"The boys are full of confidence and we want to take that into the match at the weekend.

"We've done okay since making the step up, we did well against St Mirren and lost 1-0 to a good Hibs team.

"We certainly won't disrespect anyone because teams are in this league for a reason but we're confident going into this game against Alloa."

Gasparotto is hoping to be recalled to the side after missing the midweek trip to Dumfries with a hip injury he sustained in the goalless Renfrewshire derby against St Mirren.

He added: "I've returned to training and I feel fine after I hurt my hip.

"It was bruised and it was still a bit sore for the Queens match but I'm fit again.

"It's definitely an exciting time for me, I'm still learning and it's a great experience for me being at Morton and also going away with the national team."

Alloa defender Jason Marr, meanwhile, is adamant that the Wasps can transform their season after losing their last five matches, the most recent a 3-0 defeat at Raith.

He said: "It has not been the best of starts for us, but then it has also been three very difficult games we have had.

"It is very early days for us to be panicking or for people to consign us to a relegation battle because we are still very confident of getting results in this division."
