MARK WARBURTON hailed his relentless Rangers as they stormed to the top of the Championship and made it eight wins out of eight this season.

The Light Blues are two points clear in the title race after a 5-1 win over Queen of the South at Palmerston maintained their perfect start to the campaign.

Goals from Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Barrie McKay and two Martyn Waghorn penalties clinched a deserved win for the Gers.

Queens were reduced to 10 men just after the break after Derek Lyle was dismissed for an altercation with defender Rob Kiernan.

And Warburton was pleased his side kept their foot to the floor to motor to an impressive triumph in Dumfries.

He said: “It’s a tough place to come, and it was a tough test.

“They had played three and won three and were at the top of the table. We had no doubt they would offer us a test but it was great that we’ve come here to a new place, on a different surface, against a top side and got a result like that.

“It was important for us to maintain standards. To not take liberties, to keep doing what we do best and move that football about.

“Two touch suits us on a difficult surface against a team down to a man less. We should keep the ball.

“They shouldn’t get near us, very respectfully they shouldn’t if we are moving the ball about with an extra man. It helped us and it was a good overall performance.”

The only negative on another memorable afternoon for Warburton was the loss of Lee Wallace to a knee injury in the first half.

But the Gers boss is confident the knock to his skipper isn’t a serious one as attentions turn to the visit of Raith Rovers this weekend.

He said: “Lee Wallace got an impact injury on the right side of his knee. It was precautionary.

“It’s a long season and he is an important player, and our captain. There’s no point taking unnecessary risks.

“It was the same with James Tavernier, who was on a yellow card on a difficult surface. That was precautionary too.”

Before Rangers can take to the field aiming for their ninth win on the spin, Warburton has a chance to further add to his ranks.

The 52-year-old has dismissed a potential move for former Gers loan star Haris Vuckic and, when asked if he expected any business to be done before the window closes tomorrow night, Warburton said: “I doubt it. We are pleased with our work.

“We are nearly there. One or two in, one or two out. We are not far away but if one becomes available who adds value then we will move. But right now we are very pleased.”
