PARTICK THISTLE boss Alan Archibald is poised to add to his Firhill ranks today – despite the transfer window closing at midnight.
The Jags completed a deal for Dundee United forward Robbie Muirhead early on deadline day as he joined up until January to provide competition in the final third of the park.
After signing off a move for defender Jack Hendry as he clinched a switch to League One side Wigan Athletic, the Thistle hierarchy turned their attentions back to bolstering Archibald’s ranks before the window closed.
SportTimes understands a defender is poised to complete a move to Firhill today, while there could yet be another attacking option added to the squad.
Thistle have taken just three points from their first six Premiership games and were knocked out of the League Cup by Falkirk in midweek.
The results on the park have added to Archibald’s frustrations as he has been thwarted in his attempts to bring more players to the club in recent weeks following the arrivals of Tomas Cerny, Gary Miller, Callum Booth, David Amoo and Mathias Pogba earlier this summer.
A lack of defensive options has seen Hendry rise quickly through the ranks in the opening weeks of the campaign and the 20-year-old has now headed south of the border after only making a handful of appearances for Archibald’s side.
SportTimes revealed last month that Everton were tracking the centre-back with a view to making a bid but it was Wigan who struck a deal with Thistle and then agreed terms with Hendry late yesterday afternoon.
And Latics boss Gary Caldwell is delighted to have landed his man after Hendry signed on the dotted line for the next four years.
He said: "Jack impressed that night and he is definitely one for the future, a defender with huge potential and he’s one we have been watching.
"There were other clubs interested so we’re delighted he has chosen to come to us. Let’s hope he can start realising his potential with us at Wigan Athletic."
