LIAM GRIMSHAW is excited at the prospect of swapping the Theatre of Dreams for Fir Park after signing up at Motherwell.

The Manchester United Under-21 captain had his loan move to Scotland rubber stamped with less than an hour of last night’s transfer window remaining as Well waited paitently for The FA to sign off the switch.

The midfielder, who has spent his entire career at the Reds, will now be in claret and amber until January to help add some extra quality to Ian Baraclough’s side.

It will be a different challenge altogether for the 20-year-old from Burnley going from the controlled environment of youth ranks at Old Trafford to the pressure cooker of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

But, nevertheless, it is a challenge Grimshaw is eager to grasp.

He said: “I’m definitely looking for to being here.

“It’s a new thing for me as I’ve never been on loan before and I’ve been at Man Utd all my life, so it’s going to be a good experience.

“I’ve never played in any competitive league whether it being England or up here so I’m looking forward to getting into it, trying to improve and have a good experience.

“First of all I want to try and get into the team. They won at the weekend so first of all get in the starting XI, improve and do well.”

The versatile central midfielder can also be deployed in a host of other positions including at full-back and centre-half, as he has demonstrated during his time with United so far.

He has also been called up to the England U18 squad as well as be named captain for United’s first foray into the UEFA Youth League along with being shortlisted for the Reserve Player of the Year.

It is clear that despite his years, Grimshaw is an adaptable acquisition for Motherwell. His talent was also underlined by the fact the Steelmen had to fight off interest from English Championship clubs for his signature.

“I’ve played all over really,” he told MFC TV. “In the past few seasons for Man Utd I’ve played first of all at centre-halfa t the 18s and as I moved up to reserve team football more in midfield. I can also play at full-back.

“I’d just like to get my foot in, really, and try and pass the ball and keep it simple. I’d also like to score a few goals. I’ve not scored many but I’d like to get a few more.

“I’ve watched Burnley up here a couple of times and I’ve watched other games. It looks a good standard and I’m looking forward to playing in it.”

Baraclough added: “We are delighted to get Liam in and we hope he will add further strength to our midfield.

“He is a player we have watched regularly and have been patient trying to get him confirmed. Although he is young, he has been schooled at an excellent club and he’ll add some steel in the middle of the park.

“He’ll compete with the likes of Stephen Pearson, Keith Lasley, Jack Leitch, Jake Taylor and some of our young talent in the Under 20s for a starting spot, which gives us some decent competition.”
