GERMANY defender Mats Hummels has promised that the world champions will be out to thrash the Republic of Ireland in Dublin next month and do Scotland a major favour in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Gordon Strachan's men are four points behind the Irish with two games to play and will host Poland on the same night the Germans attempt to secure their place in the finals at the Aviva Stadium.

A draw in Ireland will be enough to make sure Joachim Loew's men are planning for France next summer, but Borussia Dortmund star Hummels insists there is no way that outcome is being looked upon as satisfactory.

"We will keep pushing in the final two games," he stated. "We will not stop.

"It's not for anyone else, but for ourselves.

"We want to win these last two games because our start of last season was not good after winning the World Cup. There were problems. During that time, we had a draw with Ireland, so we know we need to improve on that.

"We lost to Poland at the beginning of last season, but we rectified that last Friday and now we will try to do the same against Ireland.

"It's important to qualify well and take our form into the finals in France.

"We want to push in the right direction and try to ensure we get the right atmosphere around the squad."

Hummels was pleased to emerge from Hampden with a victory on Wednesday night, having scored an own goal to make it 1-1 in the first half, and has branded Scotland's style of play as "kick-and-rush".

"Scotland was a tough opponent and I think they were as the boys as expected," he said. "They were physically strong and sometimes it was a bit kick-and-rush.

"To be fair, we know that Scotland have changed their style of play recently because we had watched videos and seen their passing.

"We expected them to play less of the kick-and-rush, but we did know, if it would be close towards the end of the game and they needed a goal, it could be like that.

"That's not normal and not just confined to Scotland. There are many countries who do that in the final stages of games when they need a goal.

"You can't win every duel, so it can be dangerous."
