MARK WARBURTON insists team achievements are more important than personal accolades after he collected his first silverware as Rangers boss.

The 53-year-old has been named the Championship Manager of the Month for August after a stunning start to the season that has seen his side win their first ten games of the campaign.

Light Blues right-back James Tavernier completed a double for the Gers by being crowned the Player of the Month for the second tier after a superb few weeks that has seen him net six goals for the Gers.

Former Brentford boss Warburton has made an instant impact at Ibrox and has already won over Gers fans by making a string of impressive signings and introducing a new brand of football.

And he is pleased to see the efforts of his players being rewarded as he sets his sights on far greater goals and the Championship title.

Warburton said: “It speaks volumes for the team and the staff. Any individual award – player, manager, whoever it may be – is about the team.

“The more we can have of those the better. It reflects what we and the players are doing.

“I got a couple of those last year. Not quite enough for a trip to Ikea yet for another shelf but we’re getting there slowly.

“They are at home at the moment gathering dust as we’re having some work done on the house.

“When the time is right they’ll be put in an appropriate place I’m sure.

“It wold be ludicrous if you didn’t appreciate them. You work hard and it’s how you perceive the awards. They are about the team.

“If you just sit there and say it’s about yourself and for your own ego then I think that’s completely wrong. It’s about the players and staff.

“The more of those we have the better. It speaks volumes about the work the players are doing, the commitment they are showing and the quality they are showing.

“There will never be a complaint from us about winning an award.”

Rangers continued their perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win over Livingston on Saturday as they maintained their five point advantage at the top of the table.

There was a dressing room inquest after the match at Ibrox as Warburton’s players chewed the fat over an uncharacteristically flat performance.

And the Gers boss is determined to keep his squad on their toes as they look to continue their winning run for as long as possible.

Warburton said: “You have to make sure that the environment is right for the players to keep striving forward.

“There are certain tools you can use and chat to them. But it is about the quality of the group.

“Whatever you say, if you look at the best teams or most successful teams in any area of sport or business, it is the ones that have that consistency, desire and hunger over the longer period [that are successful].

“We have to match it and learn from it and hopefully achieve what we want to achieve.”

After a campaign to forget last time out, there is a feel good factor around Ibrox and Murray Park once again following the arrival of Warburton and David Weir.

The Gers squad have bought into the manager’s blue print for the future and Warburton is keen to get the best out of every player he has taken under his wing.

He said: “Every manager is different. Every coach is different.

“You have to work with the players whether it’s a loan player, permanent player, young player, senior player. You’ve got to work with them, find out what makes them tick.

“It’s not peculiar to football. In any business you’ve got to make sure you know your employees.

“In Gedion’s case we took him out of the Arsenal environment and he’s here and we have to work with him. You don’t just get the players in and leave them.

“It’s a daily job with David, Jim and the staff all working with the players and how they bond as a group.

“And the role of Lee Wallace as captain, Kenny Miller, Dean Shiels, Nicky Law with the younger players is so important. Squad harmony – that’s what is so important for us.”
