HARRY Redknapp today urged Ally McCoist to seriously consider making a move back into management.

And he predicted his turbulent spell in charge of Rangers will have prepared him for anything if he does return to the dugout.

One-time Question of Sport captain and ITV pundit McCoist is poised to take up a role with satellite broadcasters BT Sport after agreeing the termination of his contract with the Ibrox club last week.

Ian Durrant, who worked as a coach under the legendary goalscorer during his rollercoaster three and half year reign as boss, this week revealed he did not expect to see his friend back in charge of a club.

But former West Ham, Portsmouth, Spurs and Queens Park Rangers manager Redknapp feels the 52-year-old would have a great deal to offer a club if he decides to continue with his coaching career.

He said: “I’m disappointed to see Ally out of the game. I followed all of the problems he had at Rangers and what happened in the background there.

“It looked like a nightmare for him, with wages not being paid, things going on in the background, people changing in the boardroom.

“I’m a big pal of Walter Smith and Ally and he’ll get back into the game if he wants. What he has been through in the past at Rangers will be experience that will benefit him in the future.

“It would have been a massive learning curve. It’s different when you are a player, as a manager you see all of the other side.”

McCoist’s successor Mark Warburton has done superbly since taking over at Rangers in the summer and was named as Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Month for August earlier this week.

However, the Englishman has, unlike his predecessor, had the emphatic backing of the Ibrox board during his time at the helm and Redknapp feels that has been a significant factor in the start he has made.

He said: “That’s all important. You need to know where the club is looking and the new owners appear to making Rangers stable again. It’s only a matter of time before they are back in the top flight and fighting for the Premiership.”
