FORMER Rangers strikers Michael Mols and John MacDonald have become the first ambassadors for the new Sons of Struth Football Academy.

The group rose to prominence during Rangers’ off-field troubles in recent years and were at the forefront of the campaigns to force boardroom change at Ibrox as thousands of supporters were mobilised.

They are now in the process of establishing their own coaching set-up and will initially provide courses for kids from aged seven to twelve in seven-a-side action before expanding to different age groups and formats.

And Mols, who won six major honours during his time in Light Blue and former Gers strike star MacDonald, have agreed to give their backing to the Sons of Struth.

Mols said: "I spoke to Craig a while ago about his plans for the Academy and ideas he has for the kids teams. I wish the Sons of Struth Football Academy all the success they deserve and look forward to being an ambassador for them"

MacDonald said: "With all the work the Sons of Struth have put in over the last few years they deserve a successful Academy. I know at first hand the efforts they put in to get the Academy project this far and I'm sure it will be a success".

The Sons of Struth have already raised enough funds to provide kit for kids and will look to invest in the Murray Park youth department through the Rangers Lotto.

The group have big aims for the Academy as they look to give young players a start in the game and Craig Houston of SoS is pleased to have secured the backing of two former Gers stars.

He said: “I am delighted that Michael Mols and John MacDonald have agreed to become ambassadors for the Sons of Struth Academy.

“I am thankful to Michael and John for giving us their support for what is a very exciting project and one we hope that will have a real impact for the kids who join our courses. They are two great role models for young players to look up to.
