Hoops winger James Forrest has insisted that Celtic will be ready for Thursday night’s Europa League meeting against Fenerbahce.

Celtic were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon against Hearts but Forrest believes that they will find their shooting boots in time for the game against the Turks.

Ronny Deila’s side scorned a glut of chances in the meeting with the Tynecastle side and Forrest expects that there will be no similar re-run this week.

“I think we all know that when you are playing a top team like Fenerbahce that if we get chances we need to bury them,” he said. “We are doing something right because we are making the chances in the first place but we know how important it is to take them when we get them.

“It is a big night for us and I am sure that they will come here looking to win and make up for that defeat they had on the first night of the group against Molde.

“But we feel as though we have given ourselves a good start. We got a big point against Ajax and it has given us a good platform to go on and build on it.”

Group A is shaping up to offer an intriguing contest, particularly since Molde caused such a shock with their opening victory against the Turks.

It means that Fenerbahce are under pressure to take something from the game against Celtic and with Robin van Persie in there, Forrest appreciates how vital it will be for the Parkhead side to contain him.

“We all know what van Persie and Nani can do because we have seen it over the years but I am sure that they have a lot of players who could hurt us,” he said.

“So we need to look after ourselves. We feel that we have enough about us to go out and do something. We have to be confident and be strong but if we can play the way that we can then it is possible for us to get the win. Why not?”

And Forrest himself is keen to play a part in the game. The winger had almost a entire season out last year as the club’s medical team attempted to get to the core cause of the reason for his various injury issues.

Saturday’s game was his eighth consecutive start this season – his best return since breaking into the first-team under Neil Lennon – and he is keen to maintain that.

“I have felt good,” he said. “I want to play as many games as I can. Thursday night will be a massive one and you always want to play a part in night like this.

“It is a chance for us to go out and show what we can do. Hopefully the fans will get behind us because there is nothing quite like to coming out of the tunnel with the place full and the fans right behind us.

“It definitely gives us an edge. We have one point already but if we could get the win on Thursday night it would give us a real chance to kick on.”
