RANGERS have moved nine points clear in the Championship title race after a 4-0 win over Morton at Cappielow this afternoon.

Mark Warburton’s side bounced back from the midweek League Cup defeat to St Johnstone with a fine showing against the Ton.

The Gers boss made just one change to the team that lost at Ibrox on Tuesday night as Barrie McKay replaced Kenny Miller in the attacking line.

And it didn’t take long for Rangers to add to their goal tally once again as Martyn Waghorn netted his 12th goal of the season after just 13 minutes.

Ross Forbes fouled Nathan Oduwa as he burst into the box and Waghorn made no mistake from twelve yards as he sent keeper Derek Gaston the wrong way to open the scoring.

It soon got even better for the Light Blues as Waghorn doubled his tally for the afternoon with another well taken goal.

This time he collected a McKay pass, turned in the area and the found the far corner of the net with a low shot.

After Forbes saw a free-kick go narrowly wide of the top corner of Wes Foderingham’s goal, Waghorn saw a shot saved before Rangers made it 3-0 and clinched the points.

McKay was again involved as he found Gedion Zelalem and the Arsenal starlet split the Ton defence to set up James Tavernier, the right-back finishing off a neat move with a low finish.

Towards the end of the first half, there was a chance for Alex Samuel and a superb double stop from Foderingham as he denied Michael Tidser and Denny Johnstone.

After the break, Ton Keeper Gaston gathered a low free-kick from Andy Halliday and then denied substitute Kenny Miller before Duffy threw on Stefan McCluskey and Peter MacDonald in a bid to launch a late fightback from the hosts.

It was Rangers who would net the fourth goal of the afternoon, though, as Waghorn completed his hat-trick with a neat finish at the back post.

In the closing stages, Dean Shiels hit the woodwork and Lee Wallace fired just wide but it was job done once again for Rangers.
