Ronny Deila has insisted that Efe Ambrose still has his trust despite his howler against Fenerbahce this week.

The Nigerian defender gifted the Turks a goal in a game that Celtic had dominated but while Deila has lamented the 24-year-old’s lack of concentration, he has insisted that he has no problem sticking by him.

Ambrose is suspended for Sunday’s game against Hamilton Acccies before the international break takes precedence so there will be time for both player and manager to reflect on the events of this week.

It is not the first time the 26-year-old has made a sloppy mistake in a high profile game, but Deila remains confident that the defender is still capable of eliminating that carelessness from his game.

“He has made mistakes before and he is an experienced boy who has been to big games and to the World Cup,” said Deila. “I am not afraid of playing him. He knows he is in progress and he feels good because he knows he has played well over time.

“He was very sorry about the mistake on Thursday but every player makes mistakes. He needs to move on from it, learn from it and follow up the progress he has been making because 98 percent of his game on Thursday was very good.

“He is in my squad and he has played a lot of games under me. If I see people develop, they have my confidence. But if they make the same mistakes over and over again, then we have issues.”

While Deila will not shirk from using Ambrose, he has acknowledged that similar errors will give him a problem.

“With Efe - and I say this all the time to him - his biggest task is concentration, One year ago he was making more mistakes than he does now. He is much calmer on the ball and he doesn’t take so many risks with the ball. But still he has issues with easy mistakes that we have to get sorted.

“He is only 26 years old and also off the pitch he is a very good person to have in the squad. He always works 100 percent in training. He always stands behind the team and supports the team and that is very important. He knows what he has to work on and he enjoys working and seeing the improvement.

“Now he is very disappointed but he will get over it and move on.”

Meanwhile, Emilio Izaguirre is due back for Sunday’s game against Hamilton Accies while Jozo Simunovic is still out with an ankle problem. Charlie Mulgrew is also still struggling and may not make Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad for the double header against Poland and Gibraltar.

"Jozo has a twisted ankle, he still has pain when he changes direction to we have to be patient," said the Celtic boss.

"Charlie won’t be in the squad (for Sunday). He hasn’t trained full with the team. He’ll meet up with Scotland on Sunday and they’ll take a decision further on."

Meanwhile, Deila was coy on reports linking him with a move for Leke James, a 22-year-old Nigerian who is playing for Aelesund in Norway. The player had tweeted to say that he had been watched by Celtic, prompting speculation that he was preparing for a move to Glasgow.

"I watch everyone in Norway so he can say that," laughed Deila. "I’ve seen his matches but also the others in Norway.

"He’s a good football player but we haven’t been close to doing something there."
