MARK WARBURTON hopes a mini break will prove worthwhile for his Rangers stars after they rounded off the first quarter of the campaign with a ninth successive Championship triumph.

The Light Blues beat Falkirk 3-1 on Saturday to maintain their unbeaten league run and are now not back in action until the visit of Queen of the South on October 17.

Boss Warburton chose to postpone the Petrofac Training Cup clash with Livingston scheduled for Friday due to international call-ups and is confident his squad will benefit from some time off.

He said: “A few boys go away. Gedion (Zelalem) is already away in the States and Fraser (Aird) is leaving now for the same tournament with Canada. Nathan (Oduwa) is going away with England so we are delighted with those guys.

“But we’re going to come in and work hard Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, very hard on Wednesday! The boys will then get four days off, a few going away to get some sunshine.

“So it’s a chance for them to recharge their batteries, a few niggling injuries to be shaken off, and then we come back in and work hard for the next fixture.”

One player who has certainly earned a break is striker Martyn Waghorn as he has made a stunning start to the campaign.

The 25-year-old failed to find the net against the Bairns but still put in a Man of the Match showing that delighted his boss.

“He’s dangerous and he’s hungry and when we spoke really early in the season we said that Martyn was one of those players who has to play football,” Warburton told rangers.co.uk

“He needed a run of games and he’s getting that now. We saw it last week with his hat-trick and we saw it again today.

"He’s dangerous, he’s threatening, he can go inside or outside, he can play centrally or wide, so for me Martyn will continue to get better and better.

“He loves his football and he works hard every day, he’s a great character, well-liked in the dressing room, so I’m pleased to have him and I hope he goes from strength to strength.”
