STEPHEN CRAIGAN wasn’t sure the Motherwell manager’s job was for him despite winning his first senior game in charge.

But defender Josh Law thinks the ex-Fir Park captain will be more up for making his stint permanent after sampling defeat.

Crags’ second game at the helm saw his team go down 2-1 to Dundee, a result that left the Northern Irishman exacerbated by the sub-standard second-half showing from the men in claret and amber.

And Law believes his temporary boss will keen to stay and put things right having seen his reaction post-match on Saturday.

He said: “Definitely – that’s his nature. Crags was a winner as a player. He’s got that desire in him.

“The loss hurt him a lot. I saw him in the changing room after and you could see it on his face.

“I think he will be right up for the job if they give it to him.

“When he first got here I think he got a taste for it especially after getting a win under his belt.

“He’s a big football person and I think he would love to have the job butt that’s up to the board and we will see what choice they make.”

Of course, it remains unclear if Craigan will get a chance to take the team for a third time when Motherwell return from the international break against Celtic.

As things stand his former team-mate Simo Valakari is the strong frontrunner with it understood the Well board are set to speak to the Finn today.

Regardless of who the man in charge is, Law is keen to see the matter brought to a swift conclusion.

He said: “It’s a difficult one really. There are quite a few in for it. We are all hoping for the right appointment and we are looking forward to seeing who it is.

“Obviously Crags has come in and the week or so he has been here has been really good so we will have to see what happens on that one.”

Law added: “We have seen names in the press but we haven’t a clue who’s getting it so we just want there to be an appointment and then crack on and try to get our season going.

“I think they have said that they want to appoint someone before the next game and I think that’s quite important because you don’t want it dragging on.

“Hopefully in the not too distant future we will have someone in place and he can get his plans in order and how he wants us to do things.”
