Leigh Griffiths, James McArthur, James Morrison, Charlie Mulgrew and Jordan Rhodes have withdrawn from the Scotland squad for the final qualifier against Gibraltar in Faro on Sunday.
The Scottish Football Association confirmed the withdrawals in a message on its official Twitter account.
The game in Portugal against the Group D minnows is essentially meaningless after Scotland's qualification hopes were ended by their 2-2 draw with Poland on Thursday, coupled with the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 victory over world champions Germany.
Griffiths has been playing through a calf complaint for Celtic, while Hoops team mate Mulgrew has been out of the Parkhead side for almost a month with an on-going thigh injury.
The Hoops utility player was something of a surprise call-up in the first place, with national team boss Gordon Strachan saying the 29-year-old, "wanted to be here and he wanted to add to our squad and what we do behind the scenes",
Morrison was suspended for the Poland match, but had picked up an injury for West Brom against Crystal Palace in the last game before the international break.
Wolves midfielder Kevin McDonald withdrew before the Poland game with a lower back injury which led to a call-up for Norwich midfielder Graham Dorrans who, like McArthur, came on as a substitute against the Poles, while Watford winger Ikechi Anya also dropped out last week with tight calves.
