CELTIC captain Scott Brown has slammed his team for not turning up as Celtic sank in the Molde monsoon.

The Hoops floundered in their third Europa League group game as the Norwegian’s claimed a 3-1 win at a rain-drenched Aker Stadion that leaves the Scottish champions rooted to the bottom of their section.

While the disappointment of the result will resonate deeply, so too will the poor performance from Ronny Deila’s men, who failed to build on a strong start or capitalise on the foothold provided by Kris Commons’ goal to bring the game back to 2-1.

And when asked if it was the performance he was looking for, Brown said: “No, definitely not. From start to finish we were not good enough all over the park.

“We managed to get ourselves back in the game at 2-1 and we found 30/40 seconds [later] they run up the park and score yet another goal we are disappointed with.

“It’s not really the conditions, they are the same for both teams. We just didn’t turn up and play as well as we should have done on the day.”

A late Fernandao goal gave Fenerbahce a vital 1-0 win over Ajax in Istanbul to give the Turks the upper hand over Celtic and the Dutch in the race to qualify, presumably along with Molde.

It means the Parkhead club simply cannot afford any more slip ups, starting in next month’s return with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men coming to Glasgow.

“Anything can happen in this group,” said Brown. “As you’ve seen Molde have went away to Fenerbahce and taken points, as well as taking points off Ajax as well.

“I’m sure we can do it as well, especially with two home games coming up.”

One of the biggest talking points of the night came when Commons was substituted midway through the second half, causing the goalscorer to react angrily in the dugout by shouting at the coaching team.

Brown, however, refused to comment.

He said: “I didn’t see what happened but I’ve got to be honest, it’s a team game so whatever decision the manager makes we’ve got to deal with it.”
