KENNY Miller can help the Rangers kids cope with the intense pressure of the Championship title race – whether he is playing in the Ibrox first team or not.

Hibs moved to within just two points of the second tier leaders when they beat Livingston 2-1 in a league game at Easter Road on Tuesday night.

Alan Stubbs’ men have now won 13 and drawn one of their last 14 games - and are being tipped by many in Scottish football to maintain their stunning run and land the title.

Several of Mark Warburton’s players, including first team regulars Dominic Ball, Barrie McKay and Nathan Oduwa, haven’t experienced such a high-profile contest before.

But former Gers midfielder Robet Prytz reckons having a vastly experienced campaigner like Miller in the squad will help to ease the youngster’s nerves in the months ahead.

The 35-year-old this week agreed a 12 month extension to his current deal and is now tied to the Ibrox club he grew up supporting until 2017.

Prytz played at Malmo in his native Sweden at a similar age and he believes Miller has an important part to play in the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign both on and off the park.

He said: “I can remember when I came back to Malmo from Italy when I was 33. They only had young players.

“If they lost they would say: ‘It’s Robert’s fault! He’s too old!’ But then they started to play to their potential. They became better players as a result of me being there.

“They already had the ability, it was already in them, but they couldn’t cope with the pressure and were so nervous when they played.

“I took the pressure off them. I saved them from going down in my first season back and then the next season we only lost the league on goal difference.

“The team had potential. I think when I came back I helped. I changed the whole atmosphere in the dressing room. I still got the blame if we lost, but it didn’t bother me.”

Prytz added: “I wasn’t surprised when I saw that the Rangers manager had offered Kenny another contract and he had accepted it. It is a good move for the club and the player.

“I think the young players will benefit from having a guy like Kenny alongside them on the park and in the dressing room as they try to get back to the top flight. It is a smart move by the manager.”

Prytz celebrated with thousands of his countrymen on Tuesday night as Sweden overcame Denmark in the Euro 2016 play-off to book their place in France next summer.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored three of his country’s goals in a 4-3 aggregate victory over their Scandinavian rivals.

But Prytz feels the kids who have been promoted to the national side were every bit as important to their achievement.

And the 56-times capped Swedish internationalist predicted that having older players like Miller, Dean Shiels and Lee Wallace alongside Ball, McKay and Oduwa will be important for Rangers this season.

He said: “You always need some experience in your team. But you need kids coming through as well. You need a mix. That works the best. It is an old cliché, but, without a doubt, it is true.

“With all the experience that Zlatan has got the can help the youngsters in the Swedish set-up compete at international level. The same is true at Rangers with Kenny and others there.”
