IAN DURRANT was delighted with a five star showing from his Rangers kids as the Light Blues second string beat Aberdeen at Glebe Park on Monday afternoon.

Ross Lyon and Fraser Aird netted two goals each, while Liam Burt was also on the score sheet as Durrant’s side beat the Development League champions 5-2.

Rangers are now up to fourth in the standings and are just four points adrift of league leaders Hamilton after their sixth win in twelve outings this term.

And the Murray Park boss admits his kids have set a high standard for the rest of the campaign after successive 4-0 losses to Accies and Ross County.

“We were really disappointed with the two games leading up to today – we asked for a reaction and we certainly got it,” Durrant told rangers.co.uk.

“When we play, we are a good team and they are all good players. I want to highlight the 17s boys – Kyle Bradley, Liam Burt and Jamie Barjonas – they were excellent with a great work ethic, and they’ve come in against a really strong Aberdeen side and they have shown what they can do.

“We are delighted with the result as this is a tough place to come against a good, experienced team, but those boys didn’t look out of place at all.

“Two bad results is a crisis here, and the players are beginning to get to know the demands that are on them here.

“We said to them today to make sure they were on the front foot right from the start, and while we lost an early goal, their attitude to go and play again was great, and they showed a lot of guts today.

“We also played some really excellent football on a really difficult surface.

“So we’ve set a standard now, and we can’t drop to what we played like in the last two games again as it won’t be accepted.”
