LIAM KELLY hopes his performances for Rangers’ second string will allow him to maintain his spot as Mark Warburton’s number two keeper this term.

The Scotland youth international turned in a Man of the Match showing as Ian Durrant’s side beat Aberdeen on Monday, making two crucial stops and saving a penalty in a 5-2 Development League win.

Kelly has been understudy to Wes Foderingham throughout the campaign so far as Cammy Bell continues his recovery from injury.

And the 19-year-old was pleased to get back on the pitch and play his part for the Light Blues.

He told rangers.co.uk: “It’s a good confidence booster as when you’re not involved and you’re on the bench a lot you maybe see your form drifting, so it was good to be playing again.

“If the gaffer feels I’m doing enough to stay as number two, then great, or if he feels if I should go out on loan then that’s what I’ll do.”
