MARTYN WAGHORN admits the influence of experienced striker Kenny Miller has been vital in the Rangers dressing room this season.

Miller was last week handed a new one-year contract at Ibrox that will see him play beyond his 36th birthday as he looks to end his career on a high note in Light Blue.

The former Scotland international has made 14 appearances for Mark Warburton’s side so far this season and chipped in with five goals as Rangers have made an impressive start to the campaign.

It is Waghorn who is leading the Ibrox scoring charts with 17 strikes to his credit already this term and he is thankful for the help Miller has given him in recent months.

He said: “You feel you can contribute to the younger players coming through, like Ryan Hardie, who is always asking for advice so I try to talk to him as well as Kenny Miller.

“We all stick together and it's a nice blend of youth and experience. To be fair, the younger lads have international experience now for the Under 21s and the Under 19s.

"I'm only 25 myself and I keep asking Kenny Miller for advice too. It's nice and we are a good mix.

“Kenny's done the lot hasn't he? Kenny is massive for us. Not just on the pitch, but off it too.

“He knows the club inside out and with the sheer size of the club and the way it is run, you sometimes need the presence of Kenny just to calm things down and put things into perspective, like the stuff about what's going on with the club in general.

“He's been there and done it and he's great to talk to. You can talk to him about the game, tactics and the coaching side too.

“He loves a moan but it’s just his drive to win. I love that.

“He’s one of these players that trains as he plays and always gives 100% and all credit to him.”
