ANDY HALLIDAY has his eyes firmly fixed on the prize and Peterhead after Rangers booked their place in the Petrofac Training Cup final.

Mark Warburton’s side set up a meeting with the Blue Toon with a straightforward 4-0 win over St Mirren on Saturday thanks to strikes from Jason Holt, Kenny Miller, Martyn Waghorn and a Sean Kelly own goal.

Rangers have failed to win the competition in their three years in Scotland’s lower divisions and midfielder Halliday is determined to claim his first medal at Ibrox.

He said: “It is good. It is vitally important. We have set some aims this season and that was one – to get to the Petrofac final.

“It is our fourth attempt at it and it is important that a club this size gets to finals and wins titles.

“For me personally, it will be my first final so I am looking forward to it.

“There was no need to give us any incentive. At the end of the day, it is an incentive we have had since the first day to go and win this title.

“We played Peterhead at the start of the season and they gave us a tough game. The score line was pretty flattering and it was similar [on Saturday], 1-0 going into the last 20 minutes when we managed to get the result.

“We are all looking forward to it and they will be looking forward to it as well. We have just got to go and do what we do.”

It was a comfortable afternoon at the office for Rangers as they saw off their Championship counterparts for the third time this term.

Holt set them on the road to victory with his fourth goal in seven games as he collected a neat Halliday pass and finished well after 33 minutes.

Halliday said: “A big part of Holty’s game is those late runs and he has been outstanding for us in the last few weeks.

“We knew they would sit in but they gave me a bit of time to make the pass and Holty made the run and thankfully finished it off.”
